Training

BE PREPARED

One of Mr. Clifton’s most significant Scouting experiences was completing the “Strictly For Scoutmasters” week-long course at the Philmont Training Center.  This instruction served as foundation for building Troop 56 into the unique Scouting experience that had molded hundreds of young men and dozens of adult leaders.

Upon his untimely death, a group of Troop 56 Eagle Scouts and Adult Leaders discussed how best to maintain Troop 56's "boy-led/adult-guided" organizational culture and authentic inclusivity.  Adult training was quickly identified as the most critical aspect.  From this idea, the Darryl Clifton Memorial Fund For Troop 56, Inc. was born.

Recognizing the tremendous sacrifice of time for a Scoutmaster, the Clifton Fund set a goal of being able to fully financially support one individual to complete the Philmont Training Center’s “Strictly For Scoutmasters” course every two years.  In “off years,” the Clifton Fund intends to financially support Wood Badge training for Assistant Scoutmasters.  Lastly, the Clifton Fund aims to enable Troop 56 Scouts to actively participate in leadership training, especially White Stag Leadership Development programs.

So far, we have funded the following training for Troop 56's leaders:

  • Pete Holtz - Woodbadge - 2016
  • Mike Yates - Woodbadge - 2016
  • Pete Holtz - Philmont - 2017

Your donation will help us grow this list! Thank you for your generous support.
